Skinny, all legs, four months old.
We don't know what to think .
We opt for a baby puppy to show
And leave the boy behind.

Three months later, we know we made a mistake.
David: You'll love him, Jan. He sits on your foot.
Pat: You're going to have fun with this dog.

Jan S: You have to call them and get this dog.

First fun match: awkwardly stacked
still all legs, still skinny.
Group I
And Jan: Eighties perm, big glasses,
unbelieving grin,

love-love-love.

The Judge: I saw him and knew he needed a bird in his mouth.

(That Judge: she never took her eyes off him!)

Snapshots: Flying

Flying off the deck with that beat-up punctured volleyball in his teeth
Suspended forever an instant after take-off
eyes bright, feathers, ears, all, caught in the updraft.

Flying through tall grass under sapphire sky,
eyes bright, feathers, ears, all, caught in the updraft .
Lift-off.

Flying around the ring with his particular floating stride,
reach matching drive, suspended.
Sixteen months old; no one's there to watch but us. They're all in Ventura.
First points: Best of Breed over specials.
Mahogany glow; still love-love-love.

(That judge. She never took her eyes off him)

Well, HE won't take long to finish.

Nine months later, another point.

Judge: Call your dog.
Jan: Rev come! Down! Come!
Everybody: Evacuate the hotel!
The fire alarm is going off.

Flying: over the high jump, dumbbell in mouth
Ears, feathers, all, airborne.
High in trial. New CDX.

Reflection:

We counted our trials in years instead of shows.

Smile Dude. Smile for me.
His lips come up. His eyes half close.

What a beautiful smile!
(Are you sure that's a smile?)

The puppies come to meet their Uncle Rev,
And hear his wisdom and tug
His ears, feathers, all.
He smiles gently and tells them lies.

What is it about the boy-dogs? Goofy, mushy, loving...

Rever's words-o-wisdom @ 14 years old:

At the end of a long day, there's nothing like a good chew off the toilet paper roll. Be sure you drag your work all the way to the living room so the family can appreciate your creativity!

Have you ever seen a dog look more pleased with his work? This just started a couple of months ago. He did NOTHING like this when he was a kid.

Goodbye, dear boy, dear old man dog,
My Novice A dog,
My heart.
14 ½ years is nowhere near enough.

Rever's song

Rev (Ch Marcur's Revolution, CDX) left us for the Rainbow Bridge on September 28, 2001 at the fine old age of 14 1/2 years. We miss him SO much! Here is his album. He had a great sense of humor and was very much a puppy, even though a sort of arthritic one. He was ecstatic when we brought home a new stuffed toy, and was convinced that obedience commands are the cue to perform any number of inventive responses.
