GROOMING YOUR ENGLISH SPRINGER SPANIEL Puppy
Part 3

THINNING

Now it's time to finish up! Investing in a good pair of thinning shears is really worth it. We both use "44-20's." 46 single-tooth thinners that last a lifetime. Any places where the clippers have left a line can be cleaned up with thinning sheers. Here, we smooth in a little of the puppy's cheek.

BLENDING

Make the line your clippers left when you clipped below the ear on the back of the neck disappear by blending with your thinning scissors.

Do the same where you stopped clipping at the shoulders. Later on, show groomers often use a stripping knife on the back of the neck, the shoulders, and even on the body. But a puppy won't need this kind of attention.

TAIL

And of course, finish with the tail. We use straight scissors underneath. Then, comb all the hair on top to one side and clip it even with the width of the tail. Use either the thinner or the straight scissors. Comb it to the opposite side and do the same thing.

We'll try to add to these pages as the puppies grow more hair. Feel free to ask questions! Got to keep those babies looking great!
